Step 1 – Apply for a Business Number
The Canada Revenue Agency has done a great job in simplyfing the account setup process for Non-Resident Importers. The first step is to apply for an Import/Export Business Number by completing the Business Number Application Form below.
How to complete the Business Number Application Form
Non-Resident Importers need to complete parts A, D and F to set up a Business Number.
If you expect your Canadian taxable sales to be greater than $30,000 annually, complete Part B to set up a GST/HST tax business number. If you expect your Canadian taxable sales to be less than $30,000 annually, completing Part B is optional. If you are unsure, registering for a GST/HST tax number will only become mandatory once you reach $30,000 in taxable sales to Canada.
Once the application form is completed, it is important to fax the form to the correct Tax Services Office in Canada. Click the button below to find the correct tax office based on your location. It usually takes 3-5 days to receive your Business Number.
Step 2 – Complete “Agreement to Maintain Books & Records” form
Bookmark this page because this step can only be completed after you receive your Business Number from step 1. With your Business Number in hand, download and complete the “Agreement to Maintain Books & Records Form” below. Once completed, send the signed form to the CBSA address located at the bottom of the form.
Step 3 – Complete our Setup forms
Like step 2, this step can only be completed after you receive your Business Number from step 1. Download and send the completed “NRI Company Setup Forms” to us.
